About the Faculty
The roots of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, University of Zagreb date back to 1962, when the study programme in PTT Transport was launched. Further development of transport science followed in 1965 with the establishment of the Institute of Transport Sciences, whose founding was initiated and financially supported by numerous companies and professional associations from the Republic of Croatia.
Higher education of transport professionals was further strengthened in 1968, when the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Zagreb organized a transport study programme with interfaculty teaching. This programme involved lecturers from several University constituents, including the Faculties of Architecture, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, and Law.
In 1981, the Centre for Transport Sciences was established, within which two key units operated – the Study of Transport Sciences, focused on scientific and teaching activities, and the Institute of Transport Sciences, focused on scientific research activities.
As an independent scientific-teaching and scientific-research institution, the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences of the University of Zagreb was officially registered on 10 October 1984. In accordance with the Faculty Statute, this date is celebrated as the Faculty Day of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences.
After the independence of the Republic of Croatia, the Faculty went through various stages of development, gradually strengthening its role as a leading institution in the field of transport. Today, the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences is recognized as the central national institution for the development of scientific, educational, and professional thought in the field of transport and traffic technology.
